Reading bestselling author Dr. Umes Arunagirinathan
On Friday, November 25, 2022, the Migration Section of the Lagerhaus Cultural Center welcomes bestselling author Dr. Umes Arunagirinathan for a reading from his book "Grundfarbe Deutsch." Arunagirinathan was born in Sri Lanka in 1978 and came to Germany as a 13-year-old unaccompanied refugee. Now he is a specialist in cardiac surgery and works today as a functional senior physician at the Klinikum Links der Weser in Bremen. Like many other people from another country, he has repeatedly experienced discriminatory behavior from his environment along the way: Sometimes it is just a stupid remark, sometimes a serious violation of his dignity as a human being.
At the same time, there is a debate about what one is "actually still allowed to say" without being put in the right-wing corner. He does not see himself as a victim, but as a fighter for coexistence. In his latest book, "Grundfarbe Deutsch" ("Basic Color German"), he uses his own biography to describe the difficulties people from other countries have to deal with and conveys values for successful coexistence: Together for the Strengthening of Democracy
